Oakridge Cemetery

This cemetery was Est. in the 1800's and has both historical and recent grave sites within it. In historical accounts I have found that an Owen Coffin, Born: June 15, 1813: Died: Nov. 11, 1884 is buried here along with his wife Catherine Born: Aug. 31, 1816: Died: Jan. 16, 1850 and also children; William; Born: June 27, 1845: Died: March 3, 1849, Elizabeth; Born: Feb. 17, 1847: Died: March 29, 1849 and Ellen; Born: Dec. 12, 1843: Died: March 8, 1898.
Genealogical evidence shows that Levi Coffin and Owen Coffin were 3rd. cousins once removed. Owen was the President of the Underground Railroad.
Another historiacal person found to be buried here is Arsinoe Martin, daughter of William Martin. Arsinoe became a Civil War nurse caring for the wounded. Her father, William, was a conductor of the Underground Railroad. Arsinoe returned home and later died of Typhoid from one of the camps she worked at. She was buried at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, but most of those graves, including hers, was moved to Oakridge Cemetery.
